Coinciding with Chadwick Boseman‘s debut as superhero Black Panther in Marvel‘s blockbuster film "Captain America: Civil War" last Friday (May 6), best-selling author and cultural critic Ta-Nehisi Coates‘ "Black Panther (2016) #2" comic hits shelves today (May 11).
Marvel also dropped a new video yesterday (May 10). It’s the second in the "Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet" series, and it features Coates describing his characters’ genesis and motivation, plus panels from the actual comic. Yesterday’s video also prominently features hip-hop duo Run the Jewels‘ "Oh My Darling Don’t Cry."
"With the Black Panther capturing the hearts and minds of fans around the world, we are making an all-out press for their eyes and ears," Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso said in a statement cited by ScreenRant. "And who better to make our opening statement than the sonically groundbreaking duo, El-P and Killer Mike–A.K.A. Run the Jewels?"
