It’s amazing what one tweet can do. On April 19, Dominique Apollon, vice president of research for Race Forward, which publishes Colorlines, tweeted about a life changing moment: finally finding a bandage that matched his skin.

It's taken me 45 trips around the sun, but for the first time in my life I know what it feels like to have a "band-aid" in my own skin tone. You can barely even spot it in the first image. For real I'm holding back tears. pic.twitter.com/GZR7hRBkJf

The response was immense, with people of color all over the world sharing their own experiences of first seeing their own skintones reflected in the world. In the video above, Apollon talks about why it’s so much more than a bandage.
