#SanctuaryCampus Protests Demand Safe Havens for Undocumented Students Across Country

The protests emerged in response to Donald Trump's committment to cutting federal funding to sanctuary cities and deporting millions of undocumented immigrants.

Thousands of students, undocumented and not, staged walk-outs, sit-ins and marches at schools and universities across the country Wednesday (November 16) as part of nationwide #SanctuaryCampus actions.

The protests, led in part by immigrant advocacy group Movimiento Cosecha, were organized in response to President-Elect Donald Trump's plan for his first 100 days in office, which includes overturning President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, deporting up to three million undocumented immigrants and suspending federal funding from sanctuary cities.

More than 80 schools and universities engaged in protests yesterday, with participants tweeting photos and videos with the #SanctuaryCampus hashtag:
