The series, created by wife-and-husband team Mara Brock Akil ("Being Mary Jane") and Salim Akil ("The Game"), debuted to critical acclaim in January. It follows the adventures of its titular superhero (Cress Williams, "Code Black") and superpowered daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams, "Twin Peaks") and Jennifer (China Anne McClain, "Descendants 2") as they fight to protect their community from a criminal syndicate known as The 100. "Black Lightning" is the only screen project currently headlined by a Black DC Comics character.
