FOX just ordered a pilot for a show starring "Saturday Night Live" alumna Nasim Pedrad as a teenage boy.
Variety reports that the show, called "Chad: An American Boy," will feature Pedrad as a 14-year-old boy in a Middle Eastern family who becomes "man of the house." Pedrad, who is Iranian-American, also co-wrote the pilot script. "I’m thrilled to be able to portray a Middle Eastern family not working for or against Jack Bauer on network TV," she said.
The pilot is part of FOX’s attempt to diversify its primetime lineup. The network lags behind ABC, which broadcasts "Black-ish" and "Fresh Off the Boat," in airing primetime comedies with lead protagonists of color.
Pedrad is well known for her tenure on "Saturday Night Live," during which she famously impersonated personalities like Kim Kardashian, M.I.A. and Arianna Huffington. She also starred in FOX’s short-lived "Mulaney" and also appeared on the network’s comedies "New Girl" and "Scream Queens."
