Not even a week after announcing her imminent return to international touring, Janet Jackson took to YouTube yesterday to release "No Sleeep," her first single in seven years.
The song, a sultry and downbeat track, harkens back to Miss Jackson’s "The Velvet Rope" era while also justifying the legendary performer’s place in contemporary R&B (which owes a lot to "The Velvet Rope" and the rest of Jackson’s work). Likewise, the lyrics, examining romantic yearning over sleepless nights, tread familiar territory.
This is the first bit of music released from Janet’s upcoming album, to be released on her own Rhythm Nation record label. Click above to listen to the new track.
