Last night (May 22), Stacey Abrams won the Georgia Democratic primary to represent her party on the ballot in this fall’s gubernatorial election, making her the first Black woman to do so. As The Washington Post explains, if Abrams wins against her to be determined Republican opponent (there will be a runoff in July) this fall, she will be:

- The first person of color to hold that role in Georgia
- The first Black person to serve as governor in the history of the United States

In The Washington Post video below, Abrams addresses her supporters after winning 76.5 percent of the vote. She tells the crowd, “We are writing the next chapter of Georgia’s future, where no one is unseen, no one is unheard and no one is uninspired.”
