WATCH: Traffic Reporter Pays Homage to Phife Dawg with ‘Tribe’ Rhyme-Filled Report

By Sameer Rao Mar 24, 2016

Hip-hop fans the world over mourned the death of "A Tribe Called Quest" MC and founding member Malik "Phife Dawg" Taylor yesterday (March 23). One of those fans, an Atlanta-based traffic reporter, took his respect for the legendary rapper straight to work—and we can’t thank him enough.

Mark Arum of Atlanta’s WSB-TV 2 incorporated several "Tribe" lyrics in his traffic report yesterday, pulling from classics like "Check the Rhime" and "Award Tour" to animate what likely would’ve been an otherwise-standard commentary on big city traffic. Co-anchor Fred Blankenship even got in on the fun, which you can see in the video below.

Arum also posted about Phife’s passing on his Facebook page, saying the following:

I am stunned. And shook. Most times I have to do a mic check I quote my man Phife: "Microphone Check, 1,2, what is this? The five-foot assassin with the roughneck business!" ‪#‎RIPPhifeDawg‬

Thank you, Mark Arum and WSB-TV 2, for this unique tribute.
