More than a year after she announced the project, director Ava DuVernay today (March 1) shared a teaser trailer for her Netflix limited series about the Central Park Five, now called “When They See Us.” Per the project’s YouTube description, it will follow the five Black and Latinx boys who were wrongfully convicted of rape, starting with police interviews in 1989, their incarceration and subsequent exoneration in 2002 and their settlement with New York City 12 years later.
Not thugs. Not wilding. Not criminals. Not even the Central Park Five. They are Korey, Antron, Raymond, Yusef, Kevin. They are millions of young people of color who are blamed, judged and accused on sight. May 31. A film in four parts about who they really are. WHEN THEY SEE US. pic.twitter.com/QQBVqo4TYM
