WATCH: Rami Malek Will Rock You in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Trailer

By Sameer Rao Jul 17, 2018

Rami Malek swaps the quiet genius of Elliot Alderson, the troubled hacker he portrays on USA’s "Mr. Robot," for the vibrant genius of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in "Bohemian Rhapsody." He struts his stuff in the biopic film’s new official trailer, which 20th Century Fox released today (July 17).

Deadline reports that "Bohemian Rhapsody" focuses on Mercury, who was born Farrokh Balsara to Parsi Indian parents in colonial Zanzibar, during his time with Queen. The Egyptian-American Malek, who won an Emmy for his "Mr. Robot" performance in 2016, portrays Mercury from his first performances with Queen through one of the group’s biggest performances at the Live Aid festival in 1985. Other scenes show Mercury guiding his frustrated bandmates through recordings of hits like "We Will Rock You" and the movie’s operatic namesake. The trailer also hints at two of the defining aspects of Mercury’s legend: his romantic relationships and his health struggles. Mercury died from AIDS complications in 1991.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" opens in theaters on November 2.
