After dropping a 90-second teaser in July, Ava DuVernay and Disney premiered the first official trailer for her adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time” during the American Music Awards last night (November 19). The time-and-space-defying trailer shows lead character Meg (Storm Reid, “12 Years a Slave”) traveling through other dimensions to find her missing father (Chris Pine, “Wonder Woman”). Meg and her friends receive help from supernatural characters like Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling, “The Mindy Project”) and Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon, “Big Little Lies”) in that pursuit. “Wrinkle” makes the “Selma” and “13th” filmmaker the first Black woman to direct a film with a $100 million+ budget. It is the first screen adaptation of the 1963 novel to feature a lead actress of color and racially diverse supporting cast.
