WATCH: Gary Clark Jr. Confronts America’s Anti-Black Heritage in New Video

The lyrics of "This Land," the title track from Gary Clark Jr.‘s upcoming album, defiantly condemn the racist structures baked into his home state of Texas. The blues singer and guitarist revisits that environment in the song’s new music video, which he released yesterday (January 10). The clip follows a Black child who encounters a noose, other Black children standing on Confederate battle flags, haunting spirits inside a dark rural home and, finally, Clark playing acoustic blues on a porch.

“I think it’s only right at this point in time, if you have a microphone louder than others, to speak out about that anger,” Clark told Rolling Stone about the project. Watch the video above.
