WATCH: California Prison Takes on Desegregation in This Doc

By Sameer Rao Apr 27, 2016

Filmmaker Noel Scherwin spent seven years visiting Southern California’s Correctional Training Facility, collecting the perspectives of inmates and staff as they wrestled with legal pressure to integrate the deeply segregated prison. Now you can watch the result of that process—the documentary "In An Ideal World"—in full via World Channel.

"We’re in an environment that is negative at its core and thrives on violence," says Sam Lewis, an inmate who leads multiracial reconciliation workshops in the documentary’s trailer (which you can see above). "In An Ideal World" centers on Lewis, warden Ben Curry and White separatist murderer John Piccirillo as the prison slowly works toward integrating inmates.

"In An Ideal World," the latest project in the acclaimed "America ReFramed" documentary series, had its national broadcast premiere on World Channel last night (April 26). You can watch the film on World Channel’s website for the next 30 days.
