A Harriet Tubman biopic produced by and starring Viola Davis is coming to HBO. The film, which is still in early development will be co-produced by Davis and her husband, Julius Tennon, under their company JuVee Productions, along with Halyard Park Productions and Amblin TV.

The Tubman portrayal will be adapted from historian Kate Clifford Larson’s book, "Bound for the Promised Land – Harriet Tubman: Portrait of an American Hero."

Davis plans to film the biopic in 2016, during her down time from ABC’s "How To Get Away With Murder." The project will follow up HBO’s Bessie Smith biopic which is set to air early next month.
