Tonight (December 12), liberals around the country rejoiced with Doug Jones as he claimed victory in the race to represent Alabama in the United States Senate. But no one deserves a bigger pat on the back for that win than Black women, 98 percent of whom reportedly voted for Jones, putting him over the top in a contest against a racist homophobe that may predict a more Democratic Congress come 2018.
Here, a bunch of tweets celebrating—and advocating for—the people who made it all possible.

It’s time for @TheDemocrats to stop stiff-arming Black women. #TrustBlackWomen: They remain the most loyal to this party. #AlabamaSenateElection pic.twitter.com/ZzhdaxMEhq

Amazing: turnout is at 72%-77% of ’16 presidential race in heavily black counties, but just 55%-60% in rural white counties. Black voters punching above their weight tonight & giving Jones a chance. #ALSEN

Black voters just saved the entire country from having Roy Moore in the US Senate. pic.twitter.com/0mCZfU4M42

African people, led by sisters and young people, put #DougJones in over #RoyMoore , despite #Alabama ‘s best attempts to suppress them. Lesson from tonight is NOT about appeals to "moderate whites."

Jokes aside, please feel free to show your appreciation for black people holding it down by doing something about voter suppression. Because it’s a damn shame we have to stand in line for 2 hours to save you from a pedophile.

Also, black women haven’t saved America. We still have the lowest net worth, high childbirth mortality, and we gotta worry about net neutrality.
We’re hanging on by the skin of our teeth, here. It’d be nice if #yall would get your fucking people.

For non-Black folks praising Black women in tonight’s election – do more. Support Black women. Stand up for Black women. Hire Black women. Vote for Black women.
