Travel Advisory for Arizona

By Daisy Hernandez Apr 27, 2010

Remember when it was dangerous to travel to Mexico? Today, Mexican officials issued a warning to its nationals making the trip to Arizona or already living there. The short of it: if you’re brown, watch out. Here’s what they actually said: "It must be assumed that every Mexican citizen may be harassed and questioned without further cause at any time." Yes, that pretty much sums up the new law. The move wins Mexican President Felipe Calderón’s administration one RaceWire kudo. He’d get five more if he actually put some bite to his vague warning that political and economic ties could be "seriously affected" by Arizona’s new legislation. It’s the right time to remind Arizona’s business community that the state sent $4.5 billion in exports to Mexico in 2009. Photo: Creative Commons/Ariel Gutierrez
