Terence Nance ("An Oversimplification of Her Beauty") takes viewers on a dreamlike tour through intimacy and suffering in the debut trailer for "Random Acts of Flyness." HBO posted the teaser yesterday (July 18).

The filmmaker describes his first television project as “a show about the beauty and ugliness of contemporary American life" in an HBO statement. The announcement adds that the project broadly takes on "cultural idioms such as patriarchy, White supremacy and sensuality." Each of the six episodes contains of several individual segments, which mix cinematic styles to explore these concepts. The first one will address police violence, Blackface and "sexuality in the Black community."

HBO also notes that the series will feature appearances from Whoopi Goldberg ("The View’), Dominique Fishback ("The Deuce") and Adepero Oduye ("Pariah"). Learn the full meaning behind the flyness when the show premieres at midnight EDT on August 3. Those in Philadelphia for the BlackStar Film Festival can join Nance that night for a screening and reception.
