Author, journalist and MacArthur Genius Ta-Nehisi Coates confirmed Saturday (July 30) that he would not be involved in "Creed" director Ryan Coogler‘s film adaptation of Marvel’s "Black Panther:"

Coates, the author behind the new "Black Panther" comic reboot, revealed his non-involvement in the movie during a Twitter Q&A with the comic’s fans. The session coincided with the end of the comic’s first arc ("similar to the first act in a play," according to Okayplayer), which concluded with "Black Panther #4‘s" release last Wednesday (July 27). The second arc, starting with "Black Panther #5," starts in two weeks.

The author also answered questions about his creative process and the character, saying that the protagonist’s favorite rapper is Big Daddy Kane. Coates explained plans for the 60 issues in this comic reboot and also encouraged someone seeking writing advice to "Go in the comic bookstore and get lost."
