After voting to limit debate on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court yesterday (October 5), the full Senate voted today (October 6) 50-48 to confirm Kavanaugh’s place on the highest court in the land, despite allegations of sexual assault.

It’s a decision that comes after weeks of protests from Democrats and women’s and civil rights activists who worried that Kavanaugh’s past rulings, views and actions would jeopardize the moral arc of a nation that seems hellbent on avoiding justice for women and people of color. Activists disrupted the proceedings as Vice President Mike Pence called for the vote.

The Supreme Court, which returned to session on October 1 following summer recess, now has five conservative judges and four liberal judges.
