Rosa Parks Biopic Focuses on Movement Defining Direct Action

By Sameer Rao Dec 19, 2018

Deadline reported yesterday (December 19) that production company Winterstate Entertainment will develop "Rosa," a new biopic on Civil Rights Movement leader Rosa Parks. The film will primarily focus on the 24-hour period after Parks’ famous 1955 action, where she was arrested for not vacating a seat on a bus and ignited the Montgomery Bus Boycott. A portion of film’s proceeds will go to the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development. Scholar Dr. Jeanne Theoharis‘ biographical book, "The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks," serves as source material.

This announcement comes more than a year after reports that Julie Dash ("Daughters of the Dust") will develop another Parks biopic that focuses on her earlier advocacy for Recy Taylor.
