The New York Times reminded me today that "on March 3, 1991, in a case that sparked a national outcry, motorist Rodney King was severely beaten by Los Angeles police officers in a scene captured on amateur video." Only a year later in 1992, after a jury acquitted the four police officers accused of beating, people took to the streets in protest. The LA riots caused over 50 deaths, thousands of injuries, and almost $1 billion in damage.
