Puerto Ricans called for the resignation of governor Ricardo Rosselló, after the Center for Investigative Journalism revealed messages from a private group chat where he made misogynistic and racist remarks about his constituents. Now, they have reason to rejoice.
Late on Wednesday (July 24), Rosselló announced his resignation, effective August 2 at 5 p.m. via a Facebook Live. CBS This Morning correspondent David Begnaud then tweeted that Rosselló had physically left the governor’s mansion. Thousands took to the streets, and to Twitter, to celebrate:

And the #WandaLeaks begin. Documents first reported by @SRCSandra show Wanda Vázquez, who will succeed Gov. Rosselló in Puerto Rico, declined to investigate the mismanagement of aid after Hurricane Maria and commited various ethical violations.https://t.co/C4Act40C9u

It was mentioned during the newscast in PR that Wanda Vazquez has said she would resign if it came to her being the next governor. So this will be interesting.

I thought Puerto Rico would have a governor that looked like them until I saw #RickyRenuncio . Now y'all have #WandaVazquez next? To me, this is white people sending you a clear message of white supremacy. Why do the people chosen to govern you look nothing like you? pic.twitter.com/RyyJ5s7702

@DavidBegnaud this is part of the reason why Puerto Rico doesn't want Wanda Vazquez to assume governorship either. The corruption is so far entrenched in our government that it has caused uncertainty and distrust in our judicial system. #WandaRenuncia#RickyRenuncio pic.twitter.com/gySvUIHyRp
