People in 300+ Cities Are Taking Part in the #NoDAPL Day of Action

Demonstrations against the Dakota Access Pipeline are sprouting up around the world for today’s (November 15) #NoDAPL day of action. More than 300 events are planned across the United States, as well as in Thailand, Japan and several countries in Europe.

In some U.S. cities such as New Orleans, demonstrators will target Army Corps of Engineers offices. New Orleans water protectors plan to surround the Corps office peacefully, according to a statement 350 Louisiana emailed to Colorlines. They will call on the federal agency to revoke permits for the 1,172-mile long Dakota Access pipeline, as well as for the 60-mile-long Bayou Bridge Pipeline, another project by DAPL developer Energy Transfer Partners.

"This day of action is one of many calls for solidarity actions targeting not only the Army Corps, but stakeholders at every level—including the banks who are funding Dakota Access and the companies building the project," reads the official website for the day of action.

These demonstrations come just the morning after the Department of Army, the umbrella of the Corps, announced that construction along Lake Oahe must halt until it conducts further analysis by meeting with members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. This follows the September 9 announcement where the federal department—along with the Departments of Interior and Justice—made clear it might “reconsider any of its previous decisions regarding the Lake Oahe site under the National Environmental Policy Act or other federal laws.”

Dallas Goldtooth, campaign organizer with the Indigenous Environmental Network, is skeptical of the Corps’ announcement. In a Facebook post, he said:

So although a delay is good news….. this is NOT a straight win nor victory! They are still constructing everywhere else. The only victory is when the Army Corps or President Obama revokes the permits, pulls the easement and orders a full Environmental Impact Statement.

With that, he’s urging his Facebook followers to take part in local actions. Here are some tweets that show what the #NoDAPL day of action looks like around the world. Users can follow actions on Twitter with #NoDAPL, #StandWithStandingRock and #DayofAction.
