Our Forever First Lady Hosts a New Podcast on Relationships

By Tracey Onyenacho Jul 16, 2020

Former First Lady Michelle Obama will be hosting a new podcast as part of an exclusive partnership between Spotify and Higher Ground Productions, Michelle and Barack Obama’s production company. The Michelle Obama Podcast, which launches July 29 on Spotify, will feature intimate and vulnerable conversations about relationships. The podcast will have a lineup of special guests such as Valerie Jarrett and Conan O’ Brien as well as conversations with Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson, and brother Craig Robinson.

“My hope is that this series can be a place to explore meaningful topics together and sort through so many of the questions we’re all trying to answer in our own lives,” Michelle Obama said in a statement. “Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new conversations—and hard conversations—with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another.”

The podcast will be available for Spotify’s free and Premium users. Higher Ground Productions, formed in 2018, signed a multi-year, multi-series partnership with Spotify in June 2019 in an effort to expand their production company into podcasts. Higher Ground also signed a multi-year agreement in 2018 with Netflix to produce television shows and movies.
