#NeverForget: Michael Brown’s Death, Two Years Later

By Kenrya Rankin Aug 09, 2016

Today marks two years since Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown and his body was left in the middle of Canfield Drive for 4.5 hours, making his community question if the justice system cared at all for their lives.

Today marks two years since the movement to push back against that system took on thousands of new members, as Black people and their allies in Ferguson and around the nation poured into public spaces, demanding justice for Brown and all the other Black lives extinguished at the hands of police officers.

Today marks another day that Americans cannot afford to ignore the deaths of Brown and his fallen brethren and sistren and what the widespread lack of officer convictions—and even charges, as in the case of Wilson—says about the world our children will inherit.

Today marks another opportunity to commit ourselves to dismantling a system that means Black people harm.

Today, on August 9, we remember Michael Brown.
