Lupe Fiasco Starts Nonprofit To Support Community Entrepreneurship

By Sameer Rao Oct 15, 2015

Lupe Fiasco is back in the news—and not for conflict with other emcees.

The rapper, who pursued his own entrepreneurial inclinations with his indie record label 1st & 15th Entertainment, announced on Twitter yesterday that he co-founded a new nonprofit organization to support startups and entrepreneurs in underserved communities.

Called the Neighborhood Start Fund, the organization aims to create a diverse base of entrepreneurs and fund their ideas in communities that don’t currently see much benefit from venture capital or the startup world. In keeping with their neighborhood-specific focus, the organization is starting with ventures in Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood.

Those with ideas for the neighborhood have until October 30 to submit their ideas, with finalists making pitches to a panel on November 13.

Visit the Neighborhood Start Fund’s website to learn more about how to submit.
