LISTEN: Spike Lee Tells South Carolina Voters to Pick Bernie Sanders

By Kenrya Rankin Feb 23, 2016

Director Spike Lee is the latest high profile supporter to endorse Bernie Sanders’ bid for president, and he does it in a way that only he could. In the ad below, which will reportedly run on radio stations in South Carolina now through this Saturday’s Democratic primary, Lee draws from his film canon to tell listeners why Sanders deserves their votes. He says, in part:

“Wake up! Wake up, South Caroline. This is your dude, Spoke Lee, and I know that you know the system is rigged. For too long, we’ve given our votes to corporate puppets. Sold the okie-doke. 99% of Americans were hurt by the Great Recession of 2008, and many are still recovering. And that’s why I am officially endorsing my brother Bernie Sanders. Bernie takes no money from corporations. Nada. Which means he is not on the take. And when Bernie gets in the White House, he will do the right thing.”
