Much of Color of Change‘s work focuses on replacing anti-Black media narratives with compassionate and nuanced stories about Black communities. The racial justice organization explores what this means to the Black storytellers driving this change in #TellBlackStories, the new podcast it launched today (February 19). 

The podcast shares its name with a hashtag that Color of Change uses to highlight advocacy for structural change. The six episodes released today feature interviews with Ava DuVernay ("A Wrinkle in Time"), Stanley Nelson ("Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool"), dream hampton ("Surviving R. Kelly") and other Black artists discussing how to tell robust stories about their communities.

“The stories that are told at the Oscars and across the media landscape dictate the written and unwritten rules of this country—affecting the decisions that teachers, police, judges and employers make every day,” Color Of Change president Rashad Robinson explains in an emailed statement. “We created the #TellBlackStories podcast to uplift the storytellers and leaders who are reshaping how we think about society via the entertainment industry and beyond.”
