Killer Mike Launches Campaign for Georgia State Representative

By Sameer Rao Jun 16, 2015

Acclaimed emcee and activist Killer Mike, who just appeared on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with an apt takedown of Rachel Dolezal’s cultural appropriation, made many rap fans happy when he announced yesterday on his Instagram that he would be standing for political office:

Killer Mike, whose government name is Michael Render, encouraged all of his fans in Georgia’s 55th State House District (located in Render’s hometown of Atlanta) to write in his name as a candidate for a special election for state representative. Unfortunately, Render was not able to stand for the election as he did not have the appropriate paperwork. He took to Instagram once again to thank fans, saying that "When I do run, when I win, we win."

That’s as good of an assurance as we’ll get right now that the Run the Jewels member, who has appeared on various television shows talking about police brutality, will indeed stand for political office at some point soon.
