It’s no secret that the University of California is in dire financial straits. But now there’s a new crowdfunding effort underway to help raise more scholarship money for students at the university’s 10 campuses. Promise for Education is a campaign that asks students, alumni, celebrities (like Jamie Foxx, who’s featured in the video), and ordinary people to make a promise — any promise — and, through people’s social networks, help raise money to save scholarships for low-income UC students. You can adopt a cat or promise to bungee jump and, in five pretty easy steps, help students afford college. Here’s how it works:
