In the words of Mercedez from Glee, "I am no Kelly Rowland, I am Beyonce!" I don’t really care for advertising specifically made to target Latinos, I want to see commercials that include people who look like me in national campaigns. For me, it’s a nice surprise when a technology company includes Latinos in mainstream advertising campaigns. It’s good to see Apple is finally including Latinos in their ads that aren’t behind silhouettes shaking their groove thing. (Cesar Chavez and Gloria Stefan in the Think Different campaign doesn’t count.) Apple: I look forward to the day when we’ll have iPhone commercials with a Black or brown hand holding the phone, because we’re buying those too. According to a 2008 Nielsen Mobile study, 24% of iPhone users in the U.S. are latino. Want another big surprise? According to ComScore, low income folks are the fastest growing group adopting the iPhone because in a tough economy "lower income mobile consumers turn to iPhone as internet and entertainment device." Oh, and for the record, the first Latina in an Apple ad appeared as part of 2002’s switch campaign. (Only ten years after they were trying to skip payments to their janitors.)
