More POCs Voted in 2008 Presidential Race New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows an increase in Black, Latino and Asian voters during the 2008 presidential election. While voting rates of people of color each increased by four percentage points, the rate of white voters decreased by one percentage point. Increase in Hispanic Worker Deaths While the total number of on-the-job deaths have decreased across the nation, Hispanic worker deaths have risen by 76 percent since 1992, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Human Rights Commission To Examine Immigration Detention Centers At the invitation of the Obama Administration, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, a body of the Organization of American States, will examine the conditions and due process rights in immigration detention centers in Arizona and Texas. The commission will publish and share its findings with the U.S. government in hopes of implementing their recommendations.
