For more than 100 years, members of Philadelphia’s Black horse riders community, the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club, have lived into their mission to provide safety and security for the neighborhood. The story of these riders will be told in the new film “Concrete Cowboys,” which is currently in production.

Idris Elba leads the way, alongside Caleb McLaughlin (“Stranger Things”), Jharrel Jerome (“When They See Us”), Lorraine Toussaint (“The Village”) and Byron Bowers (“The Chi”), Deadline reported on Thursday (August 8). The story follows 15-year-old Cole (McLaughlin) who goes to live with his estranged father Harp (Elba) in North Philly and stumbles upon a thriving Black horseback riding culture in the center of an urban community. It will draw on the story in Greg Neri’s novel “Ghetto Cowboy,” according to Deadline.
