ICYMI: Watch Solange Knowles’ Evocative New Videos For ‘Don’t Touch My Hair’ and ‘Cranes in the Sky’

We wrote last week about the 112-page digital book musician Solange Knowles released to accompany her new album, "A Seat at the Table." Themes, poses, outfits and motifs featured in the book also appear in a pair of gorgeous music videos released Sunday (October 2).

Like much of the album and digital book, the videos for "Cranes in the Sky" and the brilliantly-titled "Don’t Touch My Hair" pay tribute to Black beauty and womanhood in all its forms. Both videos, directed by Knowles and her husband, Alan Ferguson, feature a mix of dance sequences with posed solo and group shots—all foregrounded against sweeping scenery and palaicial old buildings. The "Don’t Touch My Hair" video features a cameo from British singer and songwriter Sampha, who sings on the song’s hook.

"’A Seat at the Table’ is a musical representation of the spirit within an unapologetically Black woman who is not interested in remaining silent in a critical time of identity, empowerment, grief, healing and self-expression—let alone, artistic expression," reads a blog post on Knowles’ website. "Watch as both women and men of color liberate themselves through costumes and choreography, as well as moods conveyed via flawless scenery and set design all by way of a glass of wine, personified, that is Solange Knowles."

What do you think of the new videos and album? Let us know in the comments.
