ICYMI: The Squad Calls Out Trump’s Racism, Moves Convo Forward

On Monday (July 15), Representatives Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), united for a press conference following President Donald Trump’s latest series of racist tweets, in which he told them to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” The four women—known as The Squad—used the time to move beyond responding to Trump and elevate the needs of their constituents, with Pressley setting the tone for the event:

I want to send a message of gratitude and thanks to the solidarity that we have received from every corner of our country, from our colleagues to our neighbors. We are grateful for your solidarity, your encouragement and your support in the face of the most recent xenophobic, bigoted remarks from the occupant of our White House. I will always refer to him as “the occupant,” as he is only occupying space. He does not embody the grace, the empathy, the compassion, the integrity that that office requires and that the American people deserve.
