Margaret Cho is no stranger to making controversial statements or gestures. But as of late, the comedian and actress has used her position to tell some stark truths about her life.
Just months after opening up about her childhood sexual assault, Cho took to her Twitter account and revealed her past life as a sex worker. Her tweets, which you can see in their entirety below (courtesy of AsAmNews.com), also reflect on society’s (and other social media users’) vilification of sex work and particularly women of color who engage in it:
I stand for women of color because I am one. I stand for sex workers because I was one. Who the fuck are you?

I have way more PTSD from rape. That’s real. Sex work was just a good way to make money. At least for me then. https://t.co/bPP2MRB911

I chose to do it. I’m not ashamed of it and I don’t expect praise for my choices. Just know that your biases hurt. X https://t.co/IgepsJUoBw

I’m not offering sex work. I’m simply stating I’ve done it. It’s hard labor and deserves dignity and DIVINITY #fucku https://t.co/gIXR7iNlyt

Yes I’ll do all I can. It’s so important that sex workers are protected. But I want us WORSHIPPED. We do holy work. https://t.co/hBc7gbYRIU

It’s hard work that’s not protected by law enforcement or unions. It’s unfair. We have the right to our bodies +work https://t.co/wcvQm07spI

I am the HOLY WHORE

It’s true. We’re way more powerless as kids. I found my strength as a sex worker and gained a lot of power as I grew https://t.co/CsETIS4BUn

I support sex workers because I was one and I know that it’s a job that’s needlessly shunned by society when frankly we should be worshipped
