ICYMI: Latino Immigrant Laborer Claps Back at Xenophobic Rhetoric, Donald Trump

By Sameer Rao Jul 13, 2015

A video Occupy Democrats posted this weekend offers the response that many have been looking for to Donald Trump’s xenophobic and racist statements against Mexicans. While Trump’s corporate endorsements all but disappeared ever since his infamous presidential candidacy announcement, many have yet to hear from those immigrant laborers who were his primary target.

In the above video, a Spanish-speaking laborer (identified as Mexican by Occupy Democrats) is approached to give his opinions on Trump while working under the sun on a construction project. Calling him what was translated from Spanish to mean   "that son of a gun" (although I suspect those fluent in Spanish will understand it differently…), the man went on to talk about the intense labor he and his fellow workers do, offering a criticism of Trump but really breaking down the hypocrisy of xenophobic rhetoric in America.

The video adds depth to the claims against Trump already out in the media. A number of laborers at the construction site of the developer’s new Washington, D.C., hotel spoke with the Washington Post last week about his claims, with one saying, "We’re risking our lives and our health. A lot of the chemicals we deal with are toxic."
