Hiro Murai, ‘This is America’ Director, Inks New Production Deal

Filmmaker Hiro Murai, who has collaborated extensively with actor/rapper Donald Glover, has signed a non-exclusive, two-year deal with MakereadyDeadline announced and Entertainment One confirmed via tweet yesterday (July 10). The deal includes Murai’s producing partner Nate Matteson, who will help helm the newly-formed production company called Super Frog. Makeready will support the duo to reportedly develop feature-length and non-traditionally formatted projects.

“We’re very excited about this partnership not only as a means to create our own work, but to also help guide bold filmmakers and storytellers,” said Murai and Matteson, according to Deadline.

Glover fans are familiar with Murai’s directorial work for FX Network’s “Atlanta,” Childish Gambino’s Grammy Award-winning music video “This Is America,” and the Amazon musical “Guava Island,” which also starred Rihanna.

In addition to Murai’s deal, Makeready’s upcoming projects include the Lena Waithe-scripted and Melina Matsouka-directed feature “Queen & Slim” (in theaters November 27), which stars Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith. And Jonas Cuarón’s Showtime thriller “Hombre” with Gael Garcia Bernal.
