Did you know white men dominate green occupations across all sectors? Blacks and Latinos comprise less than 30 percent of those employed in green industries and occupations. White women are employed in 5.7 percent of energy sector jobs, Black women employed in only 1.5, and Latino and Asian women are employed at even lower rates. “Building a robust clean energy sector is how we will create the jobs of the future,” President Obama said earlier this month, in announcing $2.3 billion in tax credits for clean energy allocated from the stimulus. But successful green jobs programs must be designed to include equity measures to benefit women and people of color. Applied Research Center has developed a toolkit that provides steps to promote and implement policies to guarantee equity and inclusion.
