The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) want the Federal Communications Commission to shut down José Luis Sin Censura, a daily talk show that’s the Spanish-language equivalent of the Jerry Springer Show.

On Monday GLAAD and NHMC filed a joint complaint with the FCC against Liberman Broadcasting, Inc. which produces the show that airs daily on Estrella TV. 

José Luis Sin Censura, which translates to "José Luis Unrated," stays true to its name. The show always has some form of nudity, graphic fighting and defamatory language that insults undocumented immigrants, working class latinos and LGBT communities. Members of the studio audience regularly run to the stage and engage in violent fights with guests — and it seems like altercations on the show are much more graphic and allowed to go on longer than on similar pre-recorded shows. GLAAD reviewed 20 episodes of the show that aired last year and documented the use of words like "pinche" ("fcking" in English) and "culero" ("assfcker"), anti-gay language, including epithets such as ""maricón," "joto" and "puñal" (or "f*ggot"), and anti-Latino slurs, such as "mojado" ("wetback"). All words that would also not be heard on pre-recorded shows in english broadcast television.

The use of these words on the show are routine and often followed by applause. The 173-page complaint [PDF] accuses the show of repeatedly defaming "gays and lesbians and legitimizing violence as a way of dealing with a variety of social issues, but especially violence against individuals who are actually or perceived to be gay."

"Urging audience members to chant such obscene words is shocking and shows a complete lack of responsibility on the part of producers and programmers. These shows send a dangerous message and can contribute to putting gay people in harm’s way. This type of programming is unacceptable," said Jarrett Barrios, president of GLAAD in a written statement.

GLAAD estimates Estrella TV reaches about 70 percent of the nation’s Latino households.

Change.org is hosting a petition targeting Julius Genachowski, the Chairman of the FCC, to hold the producers of the show accountable.
