Franchesca Ramsey Slays Piers Morgan’s Racially-Charged Critique of ‘Lemonade’

It has been nearly a week since the world got a taste of Beyoncé’s new album, “Lemonade,” and everyone seems to have an opinion. Journalist Piers Morgan quickly cemented himself as one of the loudest critics, writing a piece for the Daily Mail with an inexplicably long and racially-coded title: “Jay-Z’s Not The Only One Who Needs to Be Nervous About Beyonce, The Born-Again-Black Woman With a Political Mission.”

In it he writes, that he prefers “the old Beyoncé. The less inflammatory, agitating one. The one who didn’t use grieving mothers to shift records and further fill her already massively enriched purse. The one who didn’t play the race card so deliberately and to my mind, unnecessarily. The one who wanted to be judged on her stupendous talent not her skin color, and wanted us all to do the same.”

And to be sure that his message wasn’t missed, he also went to Twitter to discuss the visual album:


His story inspired tons of reactions, but “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore” correspondent Franchesca Ramsey’s takedown stands above the rest. She manages to shut down all of his—and his supporters’—arguments in the four-minute clip above. She ended with this takedown:

You can absolutely enjoy “Lemonade,” and you should. But you also have to realize that this album isn’t about you. That’s why Beyoncé featured an ultimate Black girl squad, including Serena Williams. If “Lemonade” was about you, Piers Morgan, it would have been called Metamucil. Look Piers, it’s like if you tried to wear a pair of Apple Bottom jeans. Sure, you can get them on, but without a big booty they might not fit that well. It doesn’t mean that you can’t wear them, but you’re gonna have a hard time feeling totally comfortable because they weren’t created for your comfort. So if you’re cool with that, then go ahead and get into formation. And if you’re not, then in the words of Beyonce, please, “suck my balls.”
