Coco Gauff Serves Up a History-Making Tennis Win in Australia

This is how you make an entrance. On January 24, at age 15, Coco Gauff became the youngest player in the history of professional tennis to win against a reigning women’s champion at the Australian Open when she bested Naomi Osaka, Tennis Australia reported. And she did it all during her Australian Open debut.

"Honestly, like, what is my life? Like, oh, my gosh!" Gauff told the crowd during her on-court interview after the win. "Two years ago, I lost first round in juniors, and now I’m here. This is crazy." The loss she’s referring to was to Osaka in August 2019 at the U.S. Open, after which Osaka consoled an emotional Gauff. Today, she can sleep well knowing that she’s the new Australian champ.
