Chris Rock Revisits ‘Bring the Pain’ for A&E Docuseries

Comedian W. Kamau Bell ("United Shades of America") examines his mentor and producer Chris Rock‘s first HBO comedy special for tonight’s (October 15) episode of A&E’s "Cultureshock."

rntDirected by Bell for the “Biography" spinoff about defining cultural moments, the episode explores the development and significance of Rock’s 1996 special, "Bring the Pain." Rock and commentators including Oprah Winfrey, Ava DuVernay, Wanda Sykes and Trevor Noah discuss how the veteran comedian’s biting social critique spoke to the racism of the mid-1990s. The special breaks down Rock’s memorable lines about O.J. Simpson and racial identity while taking him to task for controversial bits about Black intraracial issues and heterosexual romantic relationships.
