Check Out Photos From the Charleston Solidarity March

Less than a week after the harrowing massacre of nine black civilians at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, in Charleston, South Carolina, the city showed its strength and resilience in the face of severe hardship with a thousands-strong march. People packed the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge in a two-mile human chain (stretching from Charleston to the nearby town of Mount Pleasant), joining hands for an awe-inspiring five-minute moment of silence.

We have pictures from the protest after the jump, provided by Donovan X. Ramsey, who was at the protest and also contributed photos and reporting to this Huffington Post piece on the march. Ramsey spoke to protesters present, including Norvel Goff, reverend and presiding elder of the African Methodist Episcopal district that includes Emanuel, who told him:

"We are reminded this morning of the freshness of death. It comes like a thief in the night…Many of our hearts are still broken. Many of us are still shedding tears. But we must take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there."
