Colorlines recently reported that actor John Witherspoon, who plays Huey and Riley’s grandfather on “The Boondocks,” let slip that the animated series will return to television. Now we have confirmation: the beloved satire created by Aaron McGruder will be rebooted. Sony Pictures Animation announced the news at the Annecy Festival 2019 yesterday (June 12), according to The Wrap. McGruder and Sony Pictures Television are reportedly “re-imaging” the show and bringing the Freemans up-to-date on current events. No word yet on a premiere date.
