For the fourth year in a row, Black women will gather for the March For Black Women, virtually this year, on September 26, to denounce injustice against Black women, the organization Black Women’s Blueprint announced on its website. 

This year’s gathering feels even more important, as the statement notes that the march will take place to honor those we’ve lost to violence, including Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Korryn Gaines, Oluwatoyin Salau, Tony McDade, Jayne Thompson, Atatiana Jefferson, Renisha McBride, and more. 

“During this incredibly transformative moment, Black women and girls, disabled sisters, sisters across the border, and women that exist along all other axes of oppression have consistently been de-centered,” Farah Tanis, executive director of Black Women’s Blueprint, said in a statement to Colorlines. “Black Women’s Blueprint recognizes the pressing need to develop a ‘blueprint’ for political and social justice derived from Black women’s self-determination and autonomy.” 

The event will address equity for Black women; voter engagement and the importance of electing women of color to office; to look out for other women of color and more. Featured speakers include Gina Belafonte, the daughter of Harry Belafonte; poet Staceyann Chin; Rosa Clemente, the first Afro-Latinx woman to run for vice president of the United States; Rep. Ilhan Omar (D.-Minn.); model Joan Smalls; and Opal Tometi, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter. 

The Black Women’s Blueprint centers the lives of Black women in girls within the larger context of racial justice concerns, to advocate for policy that expands social, political and economic equity.
