Wakanda will rise again in Hollywood next month for the 50th NAACP Image Awards ceremony. The NAACP announced nominees yesterday (February 13), one day after the civil rights organization celebrated its 110th anniversary.
"Black Panther" dominates the list with a total of 14 nominations, including Outstanding Motion Picture; Ensemble Cast, Breakthrough Performance for Winston Duke and Letitia Wright; Directing and Writing for Ryan Coogler (the latter shared with Joe Robert Cole); and Supporting Actress for Wright, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o.
Other projects that earned multiple nods:
- "If Beale Street Could Talk": nine, including Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture for KiKi Layne, Supporting Actress for Regina King and Directing and Writing for Barry Jenkins
- "The Chi": five, including Outstanding Drama Series, Performance by a Youth for Alex R. Hibbert and two Writing noms for Lena Waithe (one shared with Dime Davis)
- "Insecure": eight, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Actress for Issa Rae and Supporting Actress for Yvonne Orji and Natasha Rothwell
