Barack and Curtis: Manhood, Love and Respect

By Terry Keleher Oct 15, 2008

A provocative new video compares and contrasts models of manhood presented by Barack Obama and 50 Cent. The convergence and complexities of race, gender, sexual orientation, culture and power are all here. How can Black masculinity be redefined and how can white patriarchy be challenged? How could Obama, if elected, model a different kind of manhood than his white predecessors and some of his Black contemporaries? The 10-minute video, "Barack and Curtis: Manhood, Love and Respect" tackles the tough questions, navigates the nuances, and offers no easy answers. But it’s definitely worth a watch. What models of manhood (or healthy and humane expressions of gender) would you like to see from our cultural and political leaders?
