The live action Dora the Explorer movie has generated positive buzz for its all Latinx cast. Star Eva Longoria certainly didn’t shy away from the topic at the Los Angeles premiere of “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” on Sunday (July 28).

"If you think about Dora being a Latina, you automatically get to populate her world with Latinos," Longoria was reported as saying by The Hollywood Reporter (THR). "There was no forcing or checking the box of diversity if you represent Dora and her natural culture." 

Eugenio Derbez, who plays fellow explorer Alejandro Gutierrez, was equally candid, telling THR that he only agreed to do the live action version of the Nikelodeon favorite after learning that the cast would be all Latinx and the plot a positive one. "I always wanted to change the image of Latinos in Hollywood because they're always portraying us as criminals and drug lords," Derbez said.

Rounding out the cast of players are Isabela Moner, who plays Dora, Michael Peña, who plays Dora’s dad, and the voices of Benicio Del Toro (“Swiper”) and Danny Trejo (“Boots”)

Dora will come to life in theaters on August 9.
