More than 20,000 people have signed a petition to reunite Felipe Montes and his children. Al Jazeera broadcasted his story last week.
The petition launched on Valentine’s Day by Presente.org and Colorlines.com’s publisher, Applied Research Center, calls on the Department of Social Services in Allegheny County, NC. to ensure that Montes, a single-father who was deported to Mexico, not be permanently separated but instead be reunified with his three sons in the United States or Mexico.
“Felipe’s case is ongoing and his family is not yet in the clear,” said Wessler, who’s been in contact with Felipe.
“On April 5th, a judge will make a decision about what comes next in his family’s case. Felipe and his lawyer continue to ask that the children be reunified with their father,” Wessler said.A yearlong investigation by Colorlines.com’s publisher, the Applied Research Center, found more than 5,000 children stuck in foster care because their parents were detained by ICE.
